The term “Yoga” means union; to harmonize body, mind emotions and spirit. In India where it originated, they practice yoga in many forms for meditation and devotion.

It is not a religion and does not teach subservience to a guru or a god.

It does teach you how to quiet the mind by paying attention to breath and movement and/or stillness of the body.

By making the body stronger and more flexible, by teaching concentration and awareness, we learn internal balance.

It is a psychophysical technology developed and refined by spiritual leaders who needed to strengthen and energize their bodies for long hours of meditation.

Healthkick Inspired Fitness Instructor Jackie Baxter, who has been teaching for 14 years, will teach you four basic poses. They are as follows:

1. Standing poses for flexibility, strength, and stamina
2. Seated poses for a healthy back, poise and reflection
3. Forward bends for calming and nurturing the body
4. Inverted poses for circulation and stress reduction
5. You will learn breathing awareness and deep relaxation for energy and renewal.

Consult your physician before beginning and if you feel any pain or discomfort while in a pose, seek the advice of your physician.
